In the event that one of your family members dies as a result of another person's actions, a criminal lawsuit alone may not give you the closure you need to move forward. In certain circumstances in which negligence or recklessness were involved, you may have grounds to file a civil lawsuit. Not only does this enable you to recover damages to which you may be entitled, but it gives you the opportunity to seek answers to important questions that can help you heal.

According to Indiana news outlet WSBT-TV, the family of a St. Joseph County man who was killed in a hit-and-run accident on March 24 has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver responsible. The source reports that the victim, 49-year-old David Fordyce, had stopped to help a pedestrian who had been hit by a car. Fordyce was directing traffic when a 17-year-old boy fatally struck him with his vehicle and subsequently fled the scene of the accident.

The 17-year-old purportedly had drugs in his system when the incident occurred. He is currently being held at the St. Joseph County Juvenile Justice Center.
