The family of an Iraq War veteran who committed suicide in 2009 has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the victim's doctors, Dr. Frank and Zachary Veres, alleging that they failed to administer proper treatment given the veteran's condition.

According to TribToday.com, an Ohio news outlet, 25-year-old Michael Ecker fatally shot himself in the head in front of his father, Matt, who recently detailed the tragic scenario in court.

''He was bleeding severely. His eyes rolled back and they were still open. I tried to think of what you're supposed to do in that situation. What do you do?'' Matt told the jury. ''I held his hand and I prayed.''

The source reports that Michael suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, a traumatic brain injury and back pain as a result of the time he spent in Iraq. The plaintiffs claim that the defendants treated Michael with high doses of Percocet, Valium and Paxil, failing to provide the 25-year-old with the proper psychiatric intervention that he allegedly required.

While nothing can ever truly compensate for the untimely loss of a loved one, there are ways to hold businesses and individuals accountable for their negligence or recklessness in certain situations so that you can gain the closure you deserve.
